Top 10 most beautiful birds in the world

Nature is an infinite reservoir of wonders and beauties. While the variety of humans is quite small, bird populations around the world boast a dazzling variety of shapes and colors. Here is our selection of 10 of the most beautiful birds.

1 - The resplendent quetzal

is one of those beautiful, extraordinarily colorful birds. He gave his name to the currency of Guatemala. This bird measures on average 38 cm, not counting the tail which can measure 60 cm on its own (only in males). He lives in the neotropics at an altitude above 1500 meters. Sexual dimorphism is often pronounced in birds and the quetzal is no exception to the rule: of the male and the female, it is undoubtedly the first the most beautiful. Here is what it looks like. The feathers of the crown, the forehead, and the beginning of the nape are deep green. The fine green feathers of the head bristle to form a beautiful crest. The nape, mantle, and back are emerald-green, nuanced with blue-turquoise reflections. When the light is weaker, the perception of the latter is different, the human eye sees them more blue-green, even purplish-blue. The long tail feathers are blue. The lower chest, belly, and lower abdomen are scarlet red.

 2 - Gould's diamond The Gouldian finch

is another beautiful bird that is very colorful and has a very silky appearance. He lives in Australia and this small bird with multicolored plumage measures only about fifteen centimeters. The difference in appearance between males and females is much less pronounced than in the quetzal. Black-headed Gouldian finches make up about 75% of the population, with the remainder being red-headed. Chin and upper throat are always black. The back of the hood, the sides of the nape, the sides of the throat and the lower part of the chest are turquoise blue. The nape is green. The mantle, the back, the scapulars and the upper part of the rump are bright green, tinge towards turquoise blue on the lower part of the rump and the uppertail feathers. Finally, the lower part of the chest, the flanks and the abdomen are of a deep yellow which catches the eye.

3 - The European Roller Beautiful birds are

not necessarily found on the other side of the planet. In France, it is possible to observe the European roller, the only bird of its species, that of the Coraciidae, to live on our metropolitan territory, where it also benefits from total protection. It is indeed quite rare there, being really present only towards the Mediterranean basin. It is most easily found in the rest of southern and eastern Europe, in the Maghreb and the Near East, as well as in Asia, up to the Altai mountains and the Himalayas. If it appears in our top 10 of the most beautiful birds in the world, it is because it is characterized by deep turquoise plumage, with the exception of the back and mantle which are reddish-brown. It is a migratory bird that measures at most 32 cm in length.

4 - The Common Kingfisher The kingfisher

is a very beautiful bird living in Europe, which can be met quite easily in France near rivers, provided you have a quick eye because this bird moves at a speed of 80 km /h. Its habitat area eventually exceeds Europe alone and the bird is also found in North Africa, and as far as China, Japan and Southeast Asia. Its hunting territory only stretches over 1 km, along a river. It does not exceed 17 cm in length but its plumage is a concentrate of electric blue with green highlights on the head, wings and back, and orange-red on the belly.

5 - The didric cuckoo clock This beautiful

green bird lives in sub-Saharan Africa and south of the Arabian Peninsula. Its name is an approximate interpretation of its song. It measures no more than 19 cm in length and sports copper highlights on its back. Rows of white spots on the wing-coverts are more visible when the bird is perched with the wings closed. The lower parts are white. Breast sides and flanks may be barred copper-brown. Its head is also green. The eyes are red, surrounded by red eye-ring. 6 - The Brilliant Spearhead This small bird, at most 12 cm in length, belongs to the hummingbird family. It sports a shiny plumage with a green dominance. The feathers form a scaly pattern all over the body. Males and females are only differentiated by the color of their beak. It is black in the male and black and orange in the female. The bird is present in Costa Rica, Colombia, Ecuador, Nicaragua and Panama.

7 - The great emerald bird of paradise This

bird of paradise is the largest of the species and lives in the forests of southwestern New Guinea, the Aru Islands and Indonesia. In this species of birds too, the appearance of the female is more discreet than that of the male. The latter has the nape and the top of the head white or light yellow. The chin is emerald green, the beak blue, the chest reddish brown and the rest of the body light brown. The prettiest and most original thing about this bird are undoubtedly the long yellow feathers that form two tufts on either side of its sides. They are very long, up to 55 cm, and thin. Two feathers, which reach 75 cm in length and have the appearance of a thread, protrude from the middle of the tail.

8 - The golden pheasant The golden

pheasant is known to lovers of ornamental birds, especially since it does not require special care and does not require much maintenance. He is from Central Asia. The male has indeed a more colorful plumage than that of the female. It is the long crest with golden yellow feathers of the first that gave its name to the species. These feathers descend to the top of the neck. At the level of the collar, the feathers turn bright orange. The upper back is emerald green, and the rest is bright yellow up to the rump. The long tail is a seamless mix of tan and black dots.

9 - The keeled toucan This toucan is also

called “rainbow” toucan. However, its plumage is mostly black. His cheeks and throat are yellow. The rump is white and the undertail-coverts are scarlet. It is its imposing beak that earned it its name because it sports many colors: green, blue, orange, purple, red. Present from eastern Mexico to northwestern Venezuela, it measures 53 cm in length.

  10 - The Snowy Owl

Beauty is not just anassembly of various colors. It can also emanate from animals whose plumage is simple but which radiate power, as is the case with birds of prey. Also, we will end our top 10 with a bird of prey with very simple plumage but not devoid of beauty: the snowy owl. Canada has chosen this owl as its emblem since 1987. It is a very large bird, which can reach up to 70 cm in length, for a variable weight between 1 and 2.5 kg. Females are slightly larger than males, and their wingspan can reach 1.77 m. The bird is predominantly white: the male is pure white, while the female and the young are spotted with brown. His yellow eyes are very recognizable. Plumage is whitest in winter to improve camouflage
