5 Species of Birds That Demonstrate Nature's Unlimited Imagination

According to a study conducted by the American Museum of Natural History, there are about 18,000 species of birds on Earth. This is twice as much as previously estimated. We know that many bird species have already become extinct due to predation or human activity. And despite our global conservation techniques, many species remain of concern because of their danger of extinction, and some specimens on our list are also concerned. The Daily Geek Show would like to present to you today 10 of the most bizarre birds in the world!

inca tern.

This bird takes its name from its habitat, which at the time was under the rule of the Inca Empire. Adapted to hunting anchovies and other small fish, it is able to dive in icy waters. But when he comes across an interesting carcass of a larger animal, like sea lions, he does not hesitate to taste

If its appearance is relatively common and banal, it is however impossible to miss its sumptuous white mustache, whether it is a male or a female. Highly social, this species is part of colonies made up of several thousand individuals.

Amazonian royal flycatcher

Widespread in northern and central South America, this species mainly inhabits the moist lowland forests of the continent. These royal Amazonian flycatchers are distinguished by their unique crest, varying in several shades of red and orange. Slightly inclined, it gives them an atypical, fan-shaped appearance. But these birds also have a unique cinnamon-colored rump and tail. Males have a red crest and that of females is orange. These animals feed mainly on insects, as their name suggests.

southern giant petrel

A large bird with pointed wings and an enormous beak, it is derived in two distinct colors: white or dark. Moreover, only 5% of individuals are white, but those of dark color tend to whiten with age. This circumpolar species is distributed from the subantarctic islands to the south of the Antarctic continent. Its diet is usually made up of carcasses, either seals or sea lions. It is considered the "vulture of the seas". When it does not find any, it generally attacks various individuals such as fish, squid, penguins or albatrosses.

kakapo

Native to New Zealand, paradise for the species, the kakapo is certainly one of the most bizarre species. Indeed, it is the heaviest parrot in the world, the only parrot that is unable to fly and one of the oldest birds on the planet. These formidable birds also live for over 90 years, but despite its long lifespan, the species is in danger of extinction. Indeed, the species is affected by human activity, and it is originally very fragile: their sexual maturity is not reached before the age of 9 or 10 years, and they reproduce only every 2 to 5 years.

French Guiana cock-of-the-rock .

As you can see, this bird is instantly recognizable thanks to its unique appearance. Orange in color, it has a constantly erect crest, which covers its broad skull. The males, for example, have a very bright orange color, while the females are much browner, with a smaller crest and a black beak with a yellow tip. These roosters spend a lot of time courting each other, and up to 50 males participate in fighting and dancing displays. Females generally prefer males who display a dominant position and an assertive character
